The Best Places to Buy Work Clothes (That Don’t Feel Cheap)

Okay hey guys, grab a coffee, or a matcha, or whatever you need right now, because we need to talk. We really need to talk about the absolute nightmare that is shopping for corporate fashion.
You know the exact feeling I’m talking about. You just landed a new job, or maybe you’re transitioning from work-from-home back to the office, and you stand in front of your closet. You stare at your massive collection of vintage Levi’s, oversized graphic tees, and going-out tops, and sudden panic sets in. You realize you have absolutely nothing to wear to a Tuesday morning marketing meeting. Nothing.
So what do you do? You panic-buy a bunch of stiff, scratchy polyester trousers from some random fast fashion place. And then you spend your entire workday pulling at the waistline, feeling sweaty, and just totally not like yourself. I’ve been there so many times, and honestly it’s the worst feeling ever.
Listen, finding work clothes that actually look professional but still make you feel cool – and most importantly, don’t feel like cheap plastic – is an actual extreme sport. You want to look put together, but you definitely don’t want to spend your entire paycheck on one single blazer. You need that sweet spot. High quality, amazing fit, but still realistic for a 25 year old’s budget.
Let me tell you a quick story so you know exactly why I am so passionate about this. Picture this. It’s my third week at my very first big “adult” job. I wanted to look so professional, so I bought these super cheap, paper-thin trousers from a mall brand that shall remain nameless. I felt pretty good about myself when I left the apartment. Fast forward to 11 AM. I go to bend down to pick up a pen I dropped in the middle of our open-plan office, and RIIIIP.
Yep. A massive split right down the back seam. Me and my coworker literally had to staple my pants back together in the bathroom stall so I could survive the rest of the day. It was absolutely traumatizing. From that day on, I made a promise to myself: no more cheap, flimsy workwear. Ever.
So over the last couple of years, I have basically made it my personal mission to find the absolute best places to buy work clothes that are high quality, super chic, and actually comfortable. I’ve done all the trial and error so you don’t have to.
Here is my ultimate, holy-grail list of where to buy work clothes that will make you feel amazing and never, ever feel cheap.
1. Abercrombie & Fitch (Hear me out on this one)
Okay wait, do not close this tab! I know exactly what you’re thinking. “Anne, you want me to buy my professional office wear at the place that smells like heavy cologne and gave me middle school trauma?” Yes. Yes I do.
They have completely transformed.
What you need to buy: The Sloane Tailored Pant.
I am not exaggerating when I say these pants changed my life. They are a perfectly drapey, wide-leg trouser that looks like it costs $300, but they’re usually around $90 (and they run sales all the time, so always wait for a sale!). The material is thick, it doesn’t wrinkle easily, and it hangs beautifully.
How I style it: I love taking the Sloane pants in a neutral color – like a deep charcoal or a soft beige tone – and pairing it with a simple, high-neck ribbed tank top. Throw a slightly oversized blazer over it, and put on some chunky loafers. You look instantly rich, like you have your entire life figured out, even if you just ate leftover pizza for breakfast.
2. Aritzia (Specifically the Babaton Line)
If you’re willing to spend just a little bit more for things that will literally last you a lifetime, Aritzia is your best friend. Navigating Aritzia can be a little overwhelming because there is so many options and different sub-brands, but for workwear, you only need to focus on one word: Babaton.
Babaton is their line that is specifically designed to be sleek, minimalist, and office-ready. The quality of the fabrics is unreal. When you touch a Babaton crepe blouse, you just know it’s good. It has weight to it. It doesn’t cling to your body in weird ways.
What you need to buy: The Effortless Pant and the Power Blouse.
The Effortless Pant is famous on TikTok for a reason. It has this incredible pleated front that is so flattering on every single body type. It somehow magically cinches your waist while giving you plenty of room in the legs. You can sit at your desk for 8 hours and not feel like your stomach is being cut in half. That is a massive win.
How I style it: Here’s my secret for Aritzia. I buy their tailored pieces, but I mix them with super casual shoes to dress them down a bit. I’ll wear the Effortless pant in black with a crisp white t-shirt tucked in, layered under a trench coat, and finish it off with some clean white New Balance sneakers. It’s that perfect “cool city girl commuting to her tech job” vibe.
3. Quince (The Ultimate Secret Weapon)
Okay, I need to tell you guys about Quince, because I feel like gatekeeping this brand would be an actual crime. If you haven’t heard of them, their whole business model is taking luxury materials like Mongolian cashmere, washable silk, and fine leather, and selling them directly to us without the insane retail markups.
I was so skeptical at first. I thought, there is no way a $50 silk shirt actually feels like real silk. But then I ordered one. And then I ordered three more.
Here’s another quick story for you. I had this super intimidating presentation with our VP of Sales – who is this absolutely flawless, terrifyingly chic woman. I was sweating just thinking about it. I decided to wear my dark green Quince washable silk blouse. During the meeting, she literally stopped my presentation on slide 4 just to ask me, “Where did you get that blouse? It looks like Vince.” Vince is like, a $400 designer brand. I just smiled and said “Oh, thank you!” and didn’t tell her it cost me 50 bucks. I felt so powerful in that moment.
What you need to buy: The Washable Silk Button Down and the Mongolian Cashmere Crewneck.
How I style it: You can literally wear these silk shirts with anything. But for a super easy, flawless office look, I tuck the silk shirt into a high-waisted midi skirt, add a thin leather belt, and wear knee-high boots. It’s comfortable, it’s breathable, and the silk gives off this subtle sheen that just screams luxury. Plus, you can throw it in the washing machine. No dry cleaning bills! We love a practical moment.
4. Mango (For the European Cool-Girl Aesthetic)
Sometimes you don’t just want basic basics. Sometimes you want workwear that actually has a bit of a fashion edge to it. When I’m craving something that looks like it walked straight off a runway in Milan but I only have a Zara budget, I run to Mango.
Mango is so much better quality than most other fast fashion stores. Their tailoring is sharper, their fabrics feel heavier, and their designs are just so incredibly chic. They are the absolute best place to go when you need a statement piece to spice up your office wardrobe.
What you need to buy: Their structured blazers and their knit dresses.
Mango’s blazers are heavily lined and have the perfect amount of shoulder padding. They don’t look floppy. You know how cheap blazers just kind of hang there sadly? Mango blazers hold their shape. And their knit dresses are a godsend for winter. They are made from really dense knit material that smooths you out and keeps you warm in freezing office AC.
How I style it: This is my go-to trick for when I have plans right after work. I’ll wear a really sleek Mango midi knit dress with some kitten heels. It’s totally appropriate for meetings all day. Then, when 5 PM hits, I swipe on some red lipstick, take off my laptop bag, grab a tiny cute shoulder bag, and I’m instantly ready for happy hour margaritas with the girls. It’s the ultimate transitional outfit.
5. Uniqlo (The Budget Holy Grail)
Alright, we have to talk about Uniqlo. If you are on a super strict budget right now – maybe you just graduated, or you’re saving up for a trip – Uniqlo is where you need to go. Period.
But here is the trick with Uniqlo. You have to be smart about what you buy. Not everything is perfect for the office, but their “Smart Ankle Pants” are legendary for a reason. They have an elastic waistband in the back. Let me repeat that. An elastic waistband. But from the front, they look totally flat, tailored, and professional. It feels like you are wearing pajama pants, but you look like a CEO.
What you need to buy: The Smart Ankle Pants and the Rayon Long-Sleeve Blouses.
The Rayon blouses are amazing because they absolutely refuse to wrinkle. I have literally shoved one into my gym bag, pulled it out two hours later, put it on, and it looked perfectly ironed. It’s actual magic.
How I style it: Keep it super minimal. A Uniqlo rayon blouse tucked into the Smart Ankle pants, paired with some classic pointed-toe flats. It’s clean, it’s professional, and it’s so incredibly comfortable. You can easily sprint for the train in this outfit without breaking a sweat.
